Using One Planet Living
One Planet Living is a registered trademark, owned jointly by BioRegional and WWF International. However, we want to encourage widespread and free use of the One Planet Living principles and framework by individuals and organisations to inform their sustainability programmes.
Our main concern is to make sure that One Planet Living is not used for greenwash. Where organisations use the One Planet Living framework, but are not part of any formal programme, they are not subject to any inspection or accreditation process. In such cases it is essential that the use of trademarked terms including ‘One Planet Living’, ‘One Planet Communities’ and the planet with a heart logo is strictly controlled, and is not allowed to imply or create any perception that their work is approved or endorsed under the One Planet initiative.
In using the One Planet Living framework, only factual and verifiable statements may be made. For example it is fine to say:
“Our company has used the 10 One Planet Living principles to help us work more sustainably.”
However, it is not acceptable to make claims that cannot be verified or are not true, for example:
“Our work meets the One Planet Living standard.”
“We comply with the One Planet Living principles.”
“We are a One Planet Living company.”
To make sure that you refer to your use of the One Planet Living framework correctly , please read our conditions of use for third party organisations and projects (PDF)
